Splatoon 2 Global Testfire Weekend – March 24 – 26:

It’s finally here! Our chance to test out Splatoon 2 on the Nintendo Switch has come, and I’m happy to report that it feels like the original. I have not picked up Splatoon on the Wii U since late last year but all that muscle memory came flowing right back after doing the quick tutorial. The only issue I ran into is the remapped jump button. On the Wii U it was mapped to the X button, which is now taken by the map, and is now moved to the B button. During intense battles it is slightly frustrating when the map pops up and you get splatted. I hope when the game comes out they allow for button remapping, but if not it shouldn’t take too long to retrain.

Not my best score from the first day. I keep forgetting the Switch has a screen shot button.

Aside from that one small issue, the testfire has otherwise gone off great on my end. The first block had some connectivity issues and small lag, but the second block I had zero issues whatsoever. It was fantastic. I felt just like I did back when I played the original, and it has made me want to pick it back up again to squeeze some last bits of life out of it until the sequel lands later this year. I’m surprised to say though that I miss the gamepad for this game. It was so convenient to be able to quickly glance down to see the map and where I needed to go and easily being able to jump to teammates. On the other hand, it’s nice being able to use the Pro controller as it feels more comfortable for a shooter.
